Easy Lifting Transport Chair, August 2, 2010

Perfect for loading in a Suburban, with one hand while the other is cast with a broken thumb! 14 pounds is the lightest transport chair that I could find, besides being a great price at Amazon. Well made for something so light. My only complaint is that the footrests are quite far apart and make the chair feel wider. Stable at a brisk speed unlike the old wheelchair whose front wheels would wobble and shake. Easy to fold and unfold. The plaid is a fun addition. I would buy it again and highly recommend it. As a physical therapist in New Orleans I researched this item at length, and often priced it in town nearly 100 dollars higher! My grandmother loves the fit and the family loves how lightweight it is for easy transport. It folds up like a breeze! Highly recommended.

Freedom for Mom and for me, August 18, 2010

First of all, in order to take my Mother anywhere, I was lugging around an almost 50 pound wheelchair. Wheelchair use is not an option…It’s only way she can get around. For the upteenth time I hurt my back lifting that wheelchair. The situation was I either get a new wheelchair for her or I get a wheelchair for myself. When it came I dreaded opening the box because I wondered if I’d be able to put it together. What a pleasant surprise! All I had to do was get it out of the box and put the footrests on and they simply slid and locked into place. We were ready to go in less than 15 minutes. The back handles have a tab on each side and pushing down the tabs allows you to put half the back down. There are cloth handles on the seat and pulling those up folds the chair. I think it weighs about 16-18 pounds with the footrests on. I was concerned about the durability of this chair but once I got it and we’ve used it a few times…no worries! The other wheelchair took up nearly my entire trunk. With this one I have plenty of room for a few bags of groceries or shopping bags. The brakes were another worry since Mom leans heavily on the chair to get in and out of the car. She only weighs around 140 but with such a lightweight chair I was concerned. Again, no worries! The brakes hold extremely well and are actually easier to use than the ones on the larger wheelchair because they are located at the back of the wheels. The only downside that I can find is that this wheelchair is wider than her heavier one and, therefore, a little more difficult to do things like get to a table at a restaurant. Still, we manage. Honestly, if I could, I would give this wheelchair 10 stars! This one is a winner.
